What Was Your Favorite Gift This Season?

I do believe the 2014 holiday season ranks in my top 10 favorites. My favorite was 2003 when I gave birth to my second child. Needless to say, I had an opportunity to really fellowship with friends, both old and new.  Today, I celebrated my daughter's 11th birthday snow tubing at Stone Mountain's Snow Park. I had a blast!!!

The purpose of writing this blog is to share my favorite gift I received this holiday season. My son, who frequently calls me a nerd, despite my love and eye for decor, found it quite funny that my friends and I get a big kick out of gifting books to one another.  Well, I was just introduced to the writings of Marianne Williamson through the book I received as a gift, "The Law of Divine Compensation".  If you are seeking growth spiritually, creatively and financially now and for 2015, this book is a must read.

I feel so empowered and ready to see changes in my business for the new year, thanks to Marianne Williamson's "The Law of Divine Compensation." She has a true gift of writing from the depths of her soul.  This book was my favorite gift. My next read will be "Return To Love."
What was your favorite gift this season?

Are you choosing to be thankful or allowing life's issues to take away from your happiness?

What are you focused on this season that is taking your attention away from the simple things that makes life worth appreciating? Sometimes, we allow the issues that arise in our lives to take control over our thoughts and actions, which takes our attention away from what truly matters. Being thankful, as this quote states, is something your choose to seek on a daily basis to combat what we face in the world. Waiting on moments of happiness to appear before we choose to become happy will never arrive until you go searching for it.

Seek and You Shall Find. Knock & the Door Shall Be Opened unto Happiness.

If you're lacking the spirit to be thankful on a daily basis or just during this season, start with the little things.
  • I'm grateful for my eye sight.
  • I'm grateful for my health.
  • I'm grateful for my family (if you have one).
  • I'm grateful for my sanity and not loosing it when things get so called "crazy".
  • I'm grateful for the few friends I have that truly care for me.
  • I'm grateful for my talents.
  • I'm grateful for my job.
  • I'm grateful for my business.
  • I'm grateful for my home.

Whatever it is, no matter how small, find something to be thankful for. If was can be thankful for the small things, God will give you more to be thankful for.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

It is not happy people who are thankful. It is thankful people who are happy.

Quotes to Keep Your Thoughts on Being THANKFUL!

I believe being thankful is something that doesn't come simply due to your upbringing. It is something that is developed as part of your character over time and practice. Part of practicing being thankful is by creating a habit of listing things you are grateful for on a daily basis, no matter how big or small. I say daily because there are many things that happen throughout the day that can take your mind in the complete opposite direction. To keep our thoughts and hearts grounded on what matters most, we have to feed it like we feed our bodies.

Here are some quotes to not only feed your body during the Thanksgiving holiday but to also feed your minds and hearts. I will be posting more quotes of encouragement to give thanks not only during the Thanksgiving holiday, but for everyday.

I would maintain that thanks is the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder. G. K. Chesterton

When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

Happy Sacrifice Day! by Pink Door Decor

I would like to blow a big kiss to moms today for all of the sacrifices they have made for their children.  Happy Mother's Day!

The first sacrifice you made is accepting the fact that you just might have war wounds after giving birth to your bundle of joy.  I still have mine after giving birth to my second child. What might those wounds be, you might ask?  Bruises and stretch marks! I have a huge bruise that has taken over ten years to fade away (actually, I can still see it slightly). Every time I look at it, I think about my baby girl.

I start with a first, but there are many seconds, thirds and fourths mom's give up for their children. So I will share my personal list that really aren't sacrifices when you think about the joy your children bring.

  • Sleep~ Especially on Christmas morning because they want to wake up early to open presents when you are trying to catch a little more shut eye.
  • Time~ No longer do you have time to yourself. Much of this is given up for them, but isn't it worth your while, especially when you choose to attend their dance recital or swim meet over hanging out with your girlfriends. The look on their faces when they see you showing up to their event is priceless. Your friends have to sometimes take a backseat to your children.
  • Money~ Your treat of a handbag or a pair of shoes when you get paid goes to weekly daycare fees or in my case, dance lessons for my daughter.  When I look in my closet, I have enough shoes that could not substitute my little girl asking me to check out her new routine for her upcoming dance recital.
For all of the sacrifices you make for your children and families, today, we honor you!

What's New From The Spring Trunk Show by Pink Door Decor

Pink Door Decor's first Spring Trunk Show benefiting the Crohns and Colitis Foundation was a huge success. The goal of raising the awareness of this disease was met.  Here's a look at some of the pictures from the event.   To learn more about Crohn's Disease, go to www.ccfa.org.

The entire salon (1245 Salon and Spa) styling room was transformed into Pink Door Decor's show room for the day.  I completed the makeover on the salon last November.  Scroll through my blog posts to see the transformation.

My personal photographer for the show G-Dab Photography did a fantastic job capturing the beauty of Pink Door Decor's home accessories. Make sure you log on over the next few weeks to see all of the images from the show.  To see an inventory of a few items from the show log on to What's New

Succumb To Succulents by Pink Door Decor

Succulents are becoming some of the most popular plants for two reasons: they are uniquely beautiful and pretty indestructible for those who do not have a green thumb.

You've seen these plants displayed individually or mixed with other arrangements.  Two of the most well known succulents are the aloe and agave plants.

Photo from Eurica

Succulent plants such as this aloe store water in their leaves so for those of us who do not have a green thumb and forget to water our plants, they are idea.  You do, however want to make sure you follow the guidelines for caring for this plant. You cannot completely neglect it. Numerous online sites can share proper care for this durable plant.  I think some of these plants are absolutely beautiful for their variety-flowering and non-flowering characteristics.

So, this summer dare to be different. Venture out and succumb to a beautiful succulent plant.
