Thanksgiving Favorites: Jellied Cranberry

One of my favorite recipes for Thanksgiving is Jellied Cranberry. I love the flavor it adds with the Thanksgiving turkey. Check out these creative shapes people used to create a custom look with jellied cranberries. People are just so creative!

Let me know what your favorite Thanksgiving recipe is by leaving a comment.

Random Acts of Kindness by Pink Door Decor

This week in Atlanta was one of unexpected struggles and circumstances.  People were stranded on highways and byways in a situation they never imagined, due to snow storm Leon. I could elaborate on the fact that America was laughing at us because of the two inches of snow we received that shut down the entire city.  Need I remind you that  we live in the south, seldom get snow, and most people cannot drive on ice, not just those who live in the south. You can read news articles and get several opinions on what happened last week.

It was the unexpected that I think brought out the best in all of us, including the random acts of kindness that were experienced by many of us, including myself.  I heard stories of strangers allowing children and bus drivers to sleep in their homes because they were stranded out in the cold.  I sat in traffic for three hours on a trip that would normally take me ten minutes.  I followed my intuition and made it to the Lenox Mall parking lot and walked to the closest hotel, the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead, Atlanta.  I did not want to run out of gas driving my normal 30 mile commute.

The Ritz Carlton sold out of rooms and I was prepared to hang out in the lobby the entire night. I had no where to go.  If I am outdating myself, so be it,  but I would like to give a big thanks and shout out to the Ritz for not once questioning anyone on the length of time they hung out in their  lobby. They allowed stranded passengers to sleep in their lobby.  Yes, the Ritz Carlton is a class act. The hostess confirmed that the bar made more money on that night than New Years  Eve (they are still a class act).

Here's where my story becomes surreal. Another woman and I were talking all night; both of us were stranded and prepared to sleep in the lobby.  Kristi, the other stranded woman and I started talking to a woman from Los Angeles, Damiana, who was in Atlanta filming a movie. Damiana, said to us that she would offer her room but she only had one bed.  Several hours later, Damiana, came back to Kristi and I and said we were welcome to stay in her room.  She had a change of heart or just realized we were harmless and needed a place to sleep.  I was grateful that I managed to find a warm place to stay that night because many adults and children were stranded in their cars for hours.  I was even more grateful that this woman felt it in her heart to offer her room to two strangers.

I allowed myself to receive this random act of kindness without hesitation, a first for me.  Thank you Damiana and all of those who reached out to strangers during Atlanta's 2014 snow storm.

Staying In Bed by Pink Door Decor

Today has been officially labeled lazy Sunday.  I stayed in bed all day.  I suppose I needed the rest because I have been suffering from a terrible cold.  Sometimes you just need to take a day for rest and that I did.   If your sleeping sanctuary looked like these beautiful bedrooms, everyday could turn into a lazy Sunday.

The fireplace is my favorite feature in this bedroom.

The large wall mirror is perfectly placed, reflecting the morning sun.

This room has a coastal feel.

I'm a sucker for pops of color!

Pure Heavenly Bliss by Pink Door Decor

I am going to share with you my simple and cost effective way to experience heavenly bliss! There is nothing like a warm bath to release all the stress from my day.  Just like a kid who has to have their rubber ducky in the tub, I have a few things that are a must when I truly want to be taken away!

Pink Door Decor's French Lavender Soy Candle is one of my favorite candles.  The scent is soft and not over bearing. It is quite soothing while taking a bubble bath.  When you are trying to relax, you do not need a heavy perfume scent from a candle tickling your nose. This candle is soot free when you pinch the wick before you burn it.  Occasionally, I apply the soy from the candle on my nail beds to soften them.  This was a little trick I learned from a spa owner who carried the candle!

Lavender seems to be a rolling theme when it comes to relaxation.  I love this body wash and foam bath by Bath and Body Works  You can find this foam bath under their Aromatherapy collection.

I love Bio-Oil!  I have seen an improvement in my skin since using it.  Read the reviews and decide for yourself.  It absorbs fast in your skin.  The next morning, your skin feels hydrated. Try it out!

A cup of hot green tea tops off my night! Lipton is one of my favorites.  It's easy to seep a tea bag.  I haven't gotten into loose leaf teas just yet, but I plan on doing so in 2014.

How do you unwind?

The Fox and Other Great Theater Spots by Pink Door Decor

Today was my daughter's tenth birthday and we spent our afternoon taking in the Atlanta Ballet's The Nutcracker. The show was fabulous and the venue was just as great.  I love attending shows at the Fox Theater in Atlanta.  The story behind the Fox is one of great interest and the link will lead you to its story.

What I want to focus on in this post is the beauty of this old theater.  It is very stately and nostalgic.  You feel like you are inside an old Egyptian Temple.  As a matter of fact, the interior design of the Fox is heavily influenced by Alhambra in Morocco and Egypt's Temple of Kharnak.

Stage For The Atlanta Ballet's The Nutcracker
After leaving the show, I was curious to find out how the Atlanta Fox ranked with other theaters in metropolitan cities in the U.S.  To my disappointment, the Fox was not ranked in the "Best US Theatres" ranking I found done by the Travel Channel. The Alliance Theater in Atlanta made the list but not the Fox.  Yes, I have been to the Alliance Theater,  if you are wondering.  The Alliance is modern and much newer than the Fox which makes it difficult to compare the two.  The acoustics are great in the Fox and I have never attended a bad show there.  I simply feel like I am in a true theater when I am there.

Color Watch 2014 by Pink Door Decor

The word has spread like wild fire about Pantone's Color of the Year for 2014.  If you haven't heard, this years beauty is Radiant Orchid.

I cannot wait to see all of the fashion and design combinations used with this color over the next few months.  What't great about Pantone colors is you can easily purchase a dress from one store in this color and go to a totally different store and find matching accessories. Fabric companies like Duralee, have already created fabrics to mimic Radiant Orchid.  The color reminds me of a richer, more sophisticated mauve that was so popular in the '80's.

What color combination would you add to Radiant Orchid?  I think my favorite add on color would be some shade of gray.  What do you think?

Holiday Tabletops by Pink Door Decor

It's that time of year and many people are hosting holiday parties.  I might add that I hosted my community party last evening and my table top looked quite splendid with the flickering hurricane candles used as a center piece under the dimmed chandelier lighting.  Let's start with the centerpiece of the table.  Nothing like candle light to set the mood.

Table Top Focal Point

This beautiful hurricane in pairs makes a great focal point for the table and it resembles a Christmas Tree. The metallic swirls reflect the candlelight and add a festive touch to any celebration.

Transitional Place Setting and Dinnerware

This is one of my favorite dinnerware sets from Pottery Barn. The set has a transitional feel that would work in a formal or casual setting. The silver trim looks fabulous with the modern hurricanes found on Pink Door Decor.

Dressing Up The Sideboard

This beautiful piece of canvas art would look absolutely gorgeous with silver and white accessories. Hanging this modern piece of art over a traditional wooden sideboard would definitely add cheer to your holiday setting. I like this piece of art because it works regardless of your furniture style.

Send me your holiday tabletops and dining spaces.  I would love to take a peak at them!
